Accidental Counsellor

one day workshop

The Accidental Counsellor workshop is for staff who are not counsellors, but find themselves in a counselling role as a result of conversations or requests for support that arise in the workplace from clients or colleagues.

This workshop includes activities and discussions, and focuses on developing awareness and understanding as well as practical skills. Focusing on the importance of communication, specifically communicating with people who are in need of support, this workshop will provide participants with information, frameworks and skill practice opportunities so they can respond with increased skills and confidence. 

By the end of this workshop participants will have:

  • practiced skills to identify signs of individuals in need of support and made appropriate referrals
  • practiced communication skills including active listening and questioning
  • responded appropriately to people who are in need of support
  • reflected and articulated boundaries of their role
  • identified self-care strategies.

Every participant receives a workbook and information kit.
