NDIS

three workshops (2 hours, 3 hours and 1 day in length)

1. Understanding the NDIS for People with Psychosocial Disability (Consumers and Carers)

3 Hour Workshop

This workshop provides an overview of the NDIS and the interactions that lead to an individual funding package, and is intended for carers and consumers to develop an understanding of how the NDIS functions, and how they can interact with the scheme to gain the best outcomes.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) introduces a profound change in the way we provide support for Australians with severe mental distress, or in NDIS language psychosocial disability, their families and carers. The federal government looks at this as an insurance scheme for the nation, with a lifetime approach.

By the end of this workshop participants will understand:

  • what the NDIS is and what it funds
  • who is eligible and how to apply
  • how to pre-plan for their NDIA meeting
  • the changed role for carers
  • the NDIA meeting: what it is and what happens
  • the package and how it works.
