Suicide Prevention for First Responders

Suicide Prevention for First Responders provides an opportunity for first responders, such as police officers, firefighters and paramedics to gain an increased understanding of the concept of suicide, a greater ability to recognise someone who may be at risk of suicide, and a better understanding of the options for responding.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • determine whose role it is to respond to a person who is suicidal
  • understand the general overview of suicide
  • assess and respond to a person who is at risk of suicide
  • understand the NSW Mental Health Act in relation to suicide
  • consider strategies for self-care of workers involved in responding to situations involving suicide.
