Supporting Choice

two hour workshop

A critical component of mental health recovery involves the right to self-determination and choices across a range of domains, such as treatment options, living situations and personal relationships. The purpose of this workshop is to provide professionals with knowledge and skills in order to work collaboratively with people living with mental illness, carers and service providers in the context of supporting choice.

By the end of this workshop participants will know about:

  • the concepts of self-determination, dignity of risk and duty of care
  • the importance of informed choice when working with people on their recovery journey
  • potential dilemmas that can occur when supporting a person to make choices
  • a tool for exploring decisions and choice.
