Research into mental illness
One Door Mental Health is dedicated to being at the forefront of knowledge about mental illness. As part of this commitment, we have established a Research Trust Fund and the Peter Meyer Fund for Research into Schizophrenia. We also assisted with the establishment of the Psychosis Australia Trust.
One Door proactively seeks and develops partnerships with researchers at universities. These partnerships range from the provision of our consumer educators, the evaluation of a program, a partnership wherein a staff member or One Door is actively involved in the research, to other joint ventures. Many organisations will also seek our help in sourcing participants for studies. See more information on studies looking for participants.

Peter Meyer Fund

The Peter Meyer Fund of Schizophrenia Fellowship NSW Ltd invites applications from researchers for the Peter Meyer Research Grant of $10,000.
Background to the Peter Meyer Fund
Peter Daniel Meyer was born on the 5th November 1964. He was a student of Sydney Grammar School. In 1987 when he was only 22, he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Although he went through 20 difficult years with the burden of schizophrenia he managed to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree at Sydney University. He also attended RMIT and St. Georges TAFE. Peter died by suicide on the 1st January 2003. Rosalind and Bob Meyer set up the Peter Meyer Fund within days of his death. The aim of the fund is to help in some small way the research into schizophrenia and assist young Australians researchers who aim to improve the wellbeing of people living with schizophrenia.
Objectives of the Peter Meyer Fund
To provide financial support for research projects into schizophrenia, including research into the causes of schizophrenia, treatments for schizophrenia, psychosocial factors and how they relate to schizophrenia and psychosocial support services for people with schizophrenia.
Eligibility Criteria
- Researchers must be based in NSW
- The project must address the research objectives
- The project must be completed within 2 years
- Joint funding with other funding organisations would be considered
- The researcher is under 35 years of age

Research Trust Fund
Applications for the Research Trust Fund are currently closed.
The Research Trust Fund of the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW Ltd invites applications from individuals or research teams in the field of psychosocial research in schizophrenia for funding of up to $100,000 for a single project over two years or support of a doctoral student for up to $30,000 over two years.
Objectives of the Research Trust Fund
- To provide financial support for research projects examining psychosocial factors and how they relate to schizophrenia
- To provide financial support to pilot novel psychosocial treatments in schizophrenia
- To support programs that examine the role of clubhouses in the provision of recovery services in schizophrenia
Eligibility Criteria
- Researchers must be based in NSW
- The project must address the research aims of the research trust fund
- The project must be completed within 2 years
- Joint funding with other funding organisations would be considered
- Principal investigators may only submit one application per funding round
