Our Area Leader in Wollongong, Deborah Byrne discusses her highly successful Men’s Activity Group.
If you’re living with mental illness, no doubt you know how important it is to spend time socialising with people who understand what the world looks like from your perspective.
Around 10 years ago we started a men’s group in Wollongong. Each week the guys join us on our bus and travel to a different area around Wollongong for an outdoor activity. We do all kinds of activities together including fishing, walks, lunches, mini golf, cricket, pool and much more. These trips give them an opportunity to chat, catch up, learn a new skill and create strong social bonds with others who understand their world.
We’ve received outstanding feedback from the men who have attended. They tell us what they love most about it is that they get to go to places that aren’t accessible by public transport so it means they get to have new experiences together.

The feedback has been so overwhelmingly positive that we’re launching another one in the new year.
If you’d like to join our men’s activity group, we’d love to have you. Visit the One Door Wollongong webpage here to get in contact with us.
