NDIS 1 What is it? How do we apply?

NDIS 1 What is it? How do we apply?

What is it?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a support and payment scheme for people with permanent and significant disability. A small percentage of people with mental illness will be eligible for the scheme. In order to be eligible, these people must be an Australian resident, must be less than 65 years of age and have a permanent and significant psychosocial disability.

How do we apply?

If you are eligible for support from the NDIS, you can work with representatives of the scheme to develop a care and support plan. It is up to the person with the disability to apply for a plan. If the person with disability cannot make decisions like these themselves, their carer may need to establish guardianship over them.
