This workshop outlines some features of effective communication including barriers and particular issues relevant when communicating with people in distress

two hour workshop

The ability to communicate effectively is critical when working with people living with mental illness. The purpose of this two hour workshop is to explore the concept of effective communication and to practice skills for addressing barriers that can arise when interacting with people in the mental health context.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • describe components of effective communication
  • explain the barriers to communicating effectively
  • outline communication strategies when working with people living with mental illness
  • demonstrate appropriate language when communicating about mental illness.
