This year we will be urging our communities across Australia to take steps towards improving mental and physical health by walking for wellness during the week following World Mental Health Day -10 to 16 October
2021 would mark the ninth annual Wellness Walk over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge for One Door Mental Health. Now 18 months into the pandemic, it is important to continue to raise awareness on the impact of COVID-19 on the people we support; and motivate them to stay active and halt the decline in their physical health.
This year’s Wellness Walk will go virtual once again, with people encouraged to register to run or walk 2km or 6km, anytime, anywhere around their communities. Any physical exercise helps our mental health. It can be as simple as walking around the block – as long as we do it in a COVID-safe way.
Though we can’t come together as a community this year, we hope that people around Australia will still take this opportunity to support us so that together we can create a world that values and treats people with mental illness as equals.
