Celebrating Mental Health Nurses and the PICS program

This year for International Mental Health Nurses’ Day, Mind and One Door celebrate and recognise the compassion, courage and contributions of mental health nurses everywhere.

This year for International Mental Health Nurses’ Day (Friday 20 February 2026), Mind Australia and One Door Mental Health celebrate and recognise the compassion, courage and contributions of mental health nurses everywhere.

In Central and Eastern Sydney, One Door’s Primary Integrated Care Supports (PICS) service boasts a dedicated team of Mental Health Nurses and Peer Workers who provide free, evidence-based mental health supports and connect people with health and psychosocial services.

Through PICS, Mental Health Nurses provided clinical care and coordination. They develop collaborative care plans with other providers, including General Practitioners and psychiatrists, as well as families, carers, other health and community services, and PICS Peer Workers. Mental Health Nurses support service users with reviewing their mental health and wellbeing, assisting with self-management of their mental and physical health, providing medication support, and helping them develop and maintain connections within their community.

“Our PICS Mental Health Nurses meet people in some of the most fragile, and distressing moments of their lives – they listen without judgement, advocate without hesitation, and create and hold hope, even when it feels distant. Each and every day, I’m blown away by their unwavering compassion, patience and kindness our nurses demonstrate in their work,” PICS Clinical Manager, Tanya Boyle, said.

“In collaboration with our team of Peer Workers, our PICS Mental Health Nurses are restoring hope and dignity, and changing lives for people experiencing mental health challenges, as well as their families and supporters.”

PICS is a free, voluntary service dedicated to supporting people who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health challenges. It offers tailored assistance that helps people manage their mental health more effectively, and enables them to live in a way that better suits their personal goals and needs.

PICS is available for people in Central and Eastern Sydney who are aged between 18 and 65 years. For more information, visit the One Door website, email pics@onedoor.org.au or call (02) 7227 6700.
