Neurodiversity breakfast raises money for One Door’s Illawarra Clubhouse

The breakfast has raised more than $60,000 for One Door Mental Health’s Illawarra Clubhouse in New South Wales.

The annual Neurodiversity Work Breakfast has raised more than $60,000 for One Door Mental Health’s Illawarra Clubhouse in New South Wales.

The event – held on Wednesday 19 November – featured a presentation by multi award-winning clinical psychologist and founder of Mindworx Psychology Dr Amanda Mullin. Dr Mullin spoke about what it means to be neurodivergent, the strengths of neurodivergent minds, and neurodiversity in the workplace.

Dr Mullin also participated in a panel discussion with Elanor Hayman (founder of Neuro Coach), Jarreau Broadhurst (Head of People and Culture at Ericom), and Scott Butler (founder of Butler HR and a neurodivergent executive recruiter). The discussion highlighted the many ways in which neurodiverse perspective add value in the workplace, including: bringing creativity, resilience and adaptability to teams, driving innovation and problem-solving, and helping shift societal attitudes and actively strengthening communities.

More than 120 guests from local businesses across the Illawarra region attended the fundraising event, which highlighted the importance of celebrating, embracing and understanding neurodiversity in all parts of our communities.

The main beneficiary of the event was One Door’s Illawarra Clubhouse and the service’s members. The Illawarra Clubhouse offers a safe, supportive and respectful environment for people living with mental health challenges to meet other people, take part in social and recreational activities, and build important life skills and confidence.

Money raised at the Neurodiversity Work Breakfast will help the Illawarra Clubhouse run its activities and programs, support the ongoing maintenance and running costs of the Clubhouse’s facilities and vehicles, and fund the creation of a new sensory room at the service.

“Mind and One Door thank everyone who participated in or contributed to this year’s Neurodiversity Work Breakfast. The support we have received this year is incredible, and all funds raised will make a tangible difference for the Illawarra Clubhouse and its dedicated members,” Denise Cumming, Interim Executive Director One Door Mental Health, said.

“With your support we will be able to sustain and expand the supports available through the Illawarra Clubhouse, which are vital in helping its members find community, connection, purpose and support to live their best lives.”

The Illawarra Clubhouse is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 3pm. To find out more call (02) 9879 2680, email Illawarra.clubhouse@onedoor.org.au or visit One Door’s website.
