October 2022

Hello Everyone!

September has flown by, and our Wellness Walk is coming up in just under a week! I look forward to you joining me and Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, along with hundreds of others, in walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Wellness Walk is extra special this year, being the 10th Anniversary of the event, and I'd like to thank the many supporters, volunteers, sponsors, organisers, and most importantly our walkers, who have participated over the years. Whether you choose to do the bridge walk, or simply take a walk in your own community, it's a great chance to show your support and improve your own wellness through walking.

October is Mental Health Month and 10 October is World Mental Health Day, so it's a great time to focus on fighting stigma and raising awareness for people living with severe and enduring mental health concerns. As well as an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our mental health and reach out for support if we need to. You can find a lot of resources on how you can 'Tune In' to how you're feeling this Mental Health Month here. This month we also celebrate national carers week during the week between 16 to 22 October. Our Carer Advocates are busily planning activities across the state, including our Hunter New England team preparing for their Annual Conference in Newcastle and Inverell.

In August-September, the One Door team completed the Workplace RAP Barometer survey for Reconciliation Australia. This survey helps measure the attitudes and behaviours of employees towards reconciliation in organisations with a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The data is then used in comparison with data obtained from the general community, allowing Reconciliation Australia to evaluate the impact of their RAP program. We look forward to receiving our results so that we can ensure that we continue to make positive change for First Nations people at a workplace level.

Last month One Door also passed our external audit against the NDIS Practice Standards and the National Mental Health Standards. We were pleased to receive excellent feedback from the auditors with no corrective actions needing to be undertaken. A great result that is in line with our own quality and safety standards.
